HSG 55 has a section on deep fat fryers. It doesn't mention distances but mentions that the electricity supply and/or gas valve for the fryer should be positioned where it can safely be turned off if the fat/oil catches fire.

thanks ,valve to switch off is located within reach ,my main concern is the radiated heat from the fryer to the gas supply pipe to the cooker, seems a silly place to be but would like to specify some regs to enforce the change if required,

cheers steve

Hi Steve

I know sweet FA about this but it does occur to me that you may find what you are looking for in guidance about the suitability and integrity of gas installations rather than deep fat fryers? I know the electricity at work regs deal with such matters so I would assume that there is commensurate guidance for gas installations. ???

found it

Safety in the Installation and Use of Gas Systems and Applicances. ACoP to the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1998

there is an appendix relating specifically to situations where installations would be considered unsafe. Yours is so specific though i think you may be looking for the opinion of a Corgi regsitered gas installer - its all in the ACoP
