Posted By Alan Gunn - SHEF(S) We all know a lost time incident is one that results in working time being lost, usually measured in days. Scenario: Worker injured on Friday, incident reported & worker sent home same day. Worker does not return to work until Tuesday morning, the next week. Is the number of lost days 2 or 4? Further complications: The worker was not scheduled to work Sat or Sun, however overtime is available. Should this be included in the calculation?

Posted By Pete Longworth From the point of view of your own internal statistics it is really up to you. You can count weekend days if you want, eg if weekend overtime work is a regular feature. The only legal requirement to count weekend days is if you are reporting the accident under RIDDOR.

Posted By Amandac Further to the post above. If this is for internal lost time reporting you should look at the time this person was not working their scheduled hours. Therefore if they were down to work the overtime at the weekend you count that, if they were not do don't count it. You need to get the ground rules for how you are going to count lost time for reporting otherwise you will not report consistently. RIDDOR is entirely different as per the first post. Hope this helps.

Posted By Alan Gunn - SHEF(S) Thanks for everyone’s replies. I think the question to ask is, could the person work? Whether or not they were scheduled too, if the answer is no, then it’s a lost day. The problem is trying to agree the baseline. Under RIDOOR you don’t count the first day, however, the company has still lost a days’ work, for the worker involved and anyone else involved in subsequent activities (save first aid/safety as that is part of the role anyway).
