Morning all

Am wondering if any of you could tell me the name of the night club fire in which a Bouncer and many others died in the fire due to the materials used being extremely flammable.

Think it happened in the 80's sometime.

Many thanks

Mark

Hi,

There was quite a famous fire in Ireland where carpet tiles were used as wall linings and they contributed greatly to the whole place being gutted in no time at all.

I think it was the Star Dust Disco? or something like that.

There is video available of a reconstruction in an old airship hangar in England showing the speed the fire developed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Crim, I am sure that was the one as I saw the video, it was amazing and really hit home how dangerous fire is when they actually had to tell the experts to back away as the fire grew so fast!

Regards

Mark

Yes Mark, I remember the ash trays just popping into flame on the tables.

Bad job for those fire fighters who attended the original fire.

Mark.

Came across your posting whilst doing search of the forum for something entirely different.

The Stardust video was actually filmed at the Health and Safety Laboratory in Buxton - half size scale model reconstruction of the club, which had polystyrene tiles stuck to the walls with flammable glue.

I was also thinking of the Station Night Club fire which happened in 2003 and killed 100 people.

The Stardust fire, was compounded by fire exits locked with chains. While it happened in the 80's , we still encounter problems with fire exits, can we as a nation ever learn ??

Are you thinking of the Summerland fire on the Isle of Man in 1973?

If not, there is, for some reason, a Wikipedia page on nightclub fires.

Hope this helps.
