Posted By AJM Gooud Morning Fellow Safety Guru's,
I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction of any information regarding servicing of Roller Shutter doors. There has been a recent near miss where a door dropped after being serviced, which is obviously dangerous.
I would like to understand more regarding the issues and any information of what should be checked during a service. I understand that this is a very obscure task but hopefully someone can HELP
Regards Alan

We have our roller shutter doors serviced by a reputable company quarterly. They charge extra for any repairs etc.
I would be very concerned if the door dropped just after a service, and I would call them back in to carry out the service properly. Have you used them before?

Posted By Mitch AJM,
As renown we use a company who have proved very reliable, we had a sectional shutter door 'drop' when a cable from the spring failed. The company I refer to have been brought in to carry out a regular maintenance, and repair, where required, regime, where are you based?

Posted By AJM We too use what we thought were a reputable company, but obviously something is not right somewhere and i am tasked with getting to the bottom of it.
Yes the company have been called in for an investigation but obviously i need to gather as much info as possible. Obviously you expect a company that supposedly specializes in this field to have completed the job correctly.
Basically there have been two instances where both roller shutter doors have dropped, obviously they have a safety break fitted and where recently serviced, but i can not accept this could happen with no reason.
Apparently one of them was worked on by the contract company two days before it fell and when they went back after it fell, they said the barrel had moved 20mm.
I am in the Midlands but we operate nationally so the whereabouts of a reputable comapany is not an issue, but i want to understand the subject better.

Posted By AJM Also, are you saying that Quarterly is standard for servicing roller shutter doors as most companies i have worked for had it completed yearly.
