Posted By Martin H I am creating a new pedestrian walkway in a car park to separate vehicles (only cars) and pedestrians, and obviously need to install a safety barrier. Does anyone know what the distance should be from the ground to the first horizontal beam - ie to protect people's ankles and shins should a car try to get through?

Posted By Bossa nova Martin, It's the distance between the verticals that stops the vehicles. Passover

Posted By Ron Hunter You do not necessarily have to build a barrier. A raised kerb (for example) serves that same purpose in most cases?

Posted By Martin H Thanks for the replies. I'll look at the BS spec. I'd rather put in a barrier. It's a 45 metre straight run on top of existing concrete and therefore bolting a barrier will be easier.
