I have been asked by the client to obtain PLI for a particular contract. The client has asked for PLI to cover £2m, which is at a cost of £1,017. However, for £1m it is almost half the cost. Is £2m the normal PLI coverage for construction/rail type work?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

My PLI is considerably less than you have been quoted, but it explicity excludes, rail and asbestos, which is I guess a reason why your quote is so high.

Hi Raymond

It's not unusual and the quote sounds quite reasonable (assuming it is for a year). Another option may be for project/client specific cover.

I would suggest that insurance is a fixed business cost, so I would cover it in the fees.

Best wishes

Common PLI cover is for £100k and £250k but if you add in any time of "risk" construction/rail/offshore then it rockets. Your quote doesn't seem that unreasonable to me.

Hope this helps.
