Is there a minimum height you can place barbed wire on a fence/gate, I have 8ft in my head for some reason but not sure........

As far as I'm concerned there are no safety standards for this but may find different security related standards. I believe these vary between 2.5m and 3m fences depending on the level of security required. If your question is safety related I suggest a risk assessment.

The use of barbed tape concertina is not recommended for fences below 3 meter in height as the bottom of the coil should not be less than 2.5 meter above ground level.
