Hello,
I would be grateful if some of you could share their thoughts on these course(s) and also any good training providers you would recommended.
I Know their is the also the S301, i plan on doing this at a later date. however any other advice on alternative/additional courses will be greatly welcomed.

Hello.
The most important thing to remember with them is that they will not make you an 'instant expert'. Without practical experience, the P402 particularly is essentially worthless. Practical site experience over many months alongside an experienced surveyor is of much more benefit. The 402's primary value is as a qualification, not an education!
The 405 will give you a good grounding in asbestos management, but again without experience can prove overwhelming, based on the experiences of a couple of guys on the 405 I did earlier in the year.
What's your background & why do you want to do them? Just curious.

I have done the p405. I act as a CDM coordinator and i wanted to broaden my knowledge of asbestos management given that i am advising clinets and design teams pre construction.
I enjoyed the course and have found it extremely useful, i did it with NATAS and they were fine.

i have been in the construction industry all my life, i started as a ground worker and ended up in health & safety. i have been offered a special price for the combined courses hence that's why it's both the p405 and p405.i was initially looking at the p405 but when the p402 is only an extra hundred quid, it's worth doing both.
I have studied Asbestos and have knowledge and understanding of the material, however i believe undertaking these courses will give me a little insight into the specialists role.
I have no intention of becoming an asbestos surveyor or anything like that, i understand competence and SKATE, I am quite happy in my own role as a Safety practitioner and CDM Co ordinator.

Cheers KCS, sounds like a sensible approach.
If you're simply expanding your knowledge & have the cash then certainly go for both: 402 is very limited, but will give you some idea of what a competent surveyor should be doing. Likewise 405 will help you extract the essentials from the regs.
Have a read of L143, MDHS100 and anything else you can get hold of & you'll be setup for both courses.

Hi
To attain the P402 you will need to submit 2 asbestos survey reports within 6 months, so you will need to arrange for two buildings to survey, these must be your own work.
Both of these BOHS courses are worthwhile but it wont be a walk in the park to get them if you have no practical experience, particularly as you intend to do them together in a one week block.
I recommend UKASL as training providers, they are also members of the UK Asbestos Training Association UKATA).
