Can anyone point me in the direction of a company who will carry out a risk assessment of an ammonia refrigeration plant using HSE document PM81 as guidance?

My client's refrigeration engineers seem unwilling to oblige and I've hit a blank elsewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We use Johnson Controls for our ammonia plant maintenance. I'm sure thay would be able to perform a risk assessment for you.

By the way, how did you manage to get a copy of PM81? Its out of print from the HSE and places like HSEDirect do not have it either. I've been after a copy for some time!

Would using out of guidance be "suitable and sufficient?"

What if it went wrong and you were prosecuted or sued?

I would have thought using older HSE guidance (where no newer guidance exists) is at least better than not using any guidance.

The hse do this a lot and withdraw a publication but do not offer a suitable alternative. In effect saying that 'they are not sure', which is not very helpful.

the persons who service and maintain the system on a daily basis are an excellent source for aquiring information for your gas RA.

then you could speak with a company that fits such systems or the company that repairs your system when it goes wrong.

then bone up on the regs for your system

then with a little luck, find someone else that has this system and exchange data.

By pulling in several strands you should end up with an RA that ticks all the boxes. using one source can expose you to the defects within that source.

not great but hope it helps, we had a leak from such a system that ended up in an evacuation of the site and the local estate.
