Posted By hirdygirdy Hi All, I'm a safety rep with a large organisation who publish a monthly magazine for the benefit of the employees and also gets messages across ie; competition winners, employee achievements, how the company is moving forward etc, etc. We have managed to get a page solely for Health&Safety for the company magazine.Does anybody have any ideas we could use to start off and hopefully go on from there and promote a positive safety culture through the magazine.

Posted By Alan Hoskins Information needs to be light, current and relevant. Concentrate first on an issue that is of greatest concern. (you knew that I expect) Alan

Posted By Crim Hi Hirdy, Many years ago I contributed to the factory's newspaper and had assistance from the editor to select catchy headlines. One I remember was the December edition and it was "Christmas presents special hazards". The article went on about the hazards around this time of year and I did that as much as I could throughout the year. Make it interesting to the readers, not just about the company but something they can relate to at home, and it will go far.

Posted By Bob Shillabeer Just a thought, why not explain exactly what the page is for and get people on side by asking them what they want from your new page and then bild on answering thier concerns and pushing better ways of doing something to promote safety. get them on your side from the start.

Posted By AMelrose The organisation I work for has a quarterly magazine and I've contributed a couple of times to it. The first was an "about me" article followed by an article about why safety is everyone's concern (not just management). The next issue is going to focus on manual handling... We also have a health and safety page on the intranet where I've had a "myth of the month" [similar to the HSE one but relating solely to the work undertaken by the organisation]. For 2009 I'm changing this to "Focus of the Month" and will look at a particular topic and provide practical advice - for example, January looks at driver safety. Perhaps you could do something similar but about topics of concern in your workplace... Good luck
