Can I ask what your thoughts are on new members to a gym singing a disclaimer if they want so that they don't need to go through an induction?

I wouldn't have thought this would have any legal standing and the gym management should be ensuring no untrained persons operate their equipment.

I would agree with you. All new users in a gym should be given an induction on the various pieces of equipment to ensure that they know how to operate them safely before they are allowed to operate them alone. That is generally standard procedures in gyms and other places with gyms such as hotels.

That's what I thought. Just joined my local gym as a corporate membership and was given the option of diving straight in if I signed disclaimer when I mentioned I'd used gym equipment in the forces (not the specific equipment they use).

They also told me to be careful when getting out the shower as they haven't put mats in yet.

Hmm. If I was a consultant, I think my nose would be twitching here.

I've just changed gyms, and I was allowed to skip induction if I filled in a form saying I'd been inducted (induced?) at my previous gym. I had to say who the previous gym was, and sign to say I was happy for new gym to contact old gym and check that I'd told them the truth, but I bet no such check happened...

At the very least though they should do a familiarisation. After all no two gyms have the same equipment.

Pardon me if I'm not taking this seriously but I've never heard a disclaimer being sung? (spellcheck is there to be used).

Seriously though I agree that all new members should be induced and it would be neglectful of the management not to enforce this.
