I am struggling trying to make a meaningful comparioson between the US ANSI Z89.1 (Industrial Head Protection) & Australian AS 1801 (Occupational Protective Helmets) Standards.
I currently have a delivery driver on a construction site that has an American "Cowboy" style helmet & he believes it complies with our Australian Standard.
I don't seem to be able to find a clear comparison.
Any suggestion - & Yes...before anyone says.."look at both standards".. I have already tried to do a face to face comparison. I still have the head ache to prove it!!
Cheers form Sunny Australia,
Wayne

Not being familiar with either regulations I can only apply some logic and common sense, in that, does the 'offending' hat present any problems? If not, and the regulations do not clearly make a definition between the two, then I suggest there is not an issue.
Wish I was there...g'day.

And a very frosty good morning to you Wayne,
most American safety / destructive tests on protective equipment I have seen are above those carried out in Europe.
So from that I would deduce that Australia follows somewhat with the UK / European standards, not American.
but i think your headache will last a little longer as u still have to confirm.
There is a pressure points between the thumb (where it meets the hand) and finger, Put your thumb against your hand and with the thumb of your other hand feel for the pressure point on the "fatty bit" next to the thumb, moving towards the wrist, gently press down on it for 15 secs, two or three times (careful, you will know the point when you find it)do it to the corresponding side of the head to hand. After a while it will be gone.

Gday Wayne!
prroberly the easiest way to avoid the headache is if he has any proof of the hat conforming to any of the standards by way of documentary evidence and/or being stamped into the hat!
Hope you lot down there are not laughing too much as to team set up before the next ashes!
