Could anybody assist?
I see this time and again does anybody know exactly why this should not be the case? That is on a scaffold working platform why should it be either all metal or all timber? Is it to do with supports distances or bracket ends?
Thanks all

The only system I am familiar with that has both metal and wooden boards is Kwikstage.
In the case of Kwikstage the board should be securely seated between the angular "transoms" with no room for movement. Also there are no intermediate supports needed in an 8ft (2.4m) span.
As for mixing timber and metal boards on a Kwikstage scaffold the main issue I would be concerned about would be slightly differing surface slip resistance during winter, but see no fundamental issue preventing a mixture of metal and timber boards.
I would not recommend metal boards be used on a conventional "tube and fitting" scaffold.
Others may be aware of other scaffolds that use metal boards.

I should have stated that Kwikstage boards are thicker that a conventional board (50mm) and only 2.4m long.
