Posted By Derek Williams HI all, My company are in the process of altering the factory layout, part of that involves the removal of a staircase up to a mezzanine floor, the raised floor area is 35 metres by 4 metres, it is used for storeage only, this will leave one staircase that is at one end for access and egress, would an additional fixed stair or ladder have to be installed to comply with fire regulations. Regards, Derek.

Posted By Andrew Carr If it's not a permanent workplace, then I think you'll find the one staircase is suitable. So long as everything else (alarm system, FAFFA and emergency procedures etc) are all in place then I'd suggest this would be ok.

Posted By Phill Firmin You need to take a look at the Fire Risk Assessmnet government guidance (put that in your search browser and you will get there) for Factories and Warehouses - it is a free download. I do not know this one that well, but if the others are anything to go bye they are very comprehensive and the one thing you must check is the plans, escape routes and distances applicable to storage areas I should imagine (doing a search on the document is quite easy). Apologies I don't have time at the moment or I would find out myself, purely for knowledge reasons. If you can update me I would appreciate it. Phill Firmin.
