Power will be cut to our offces for approximately two hours on Monday; there will be no problems with water supplies.
I have raised concerns that the lack of lighting levels could have an impact on H&S along with reduced termperatures possibly reaching the 16 degrees minimum.
I suppose the whole thing boils down to what is a reasonable amount of time for a pre-planned loss of power not impacting heavily on the Welfare Regulations. Any advice or comment is greatly appreciated.

I doubt any enforcement officer would pursue you due to lack of power for 2 hours.

what I would also say how this is going to impact the business... you say offices? No power means no DSE use, printing... production?

If no production or lack of it could a better time not be planned e.g. towards the end of the working day? Less impact on production..minimum impact on staff and welfare!
Excellent opportunity to test emergency lighting, ups backup etc though!!

Given that this is a planned power cut I think the HSE will expect its impact to have assessed and managed (potentailly risk assessed). They do take welfare seriously, and if the facilities can't be used as no lighting is available, even for just 2 hours then alternative arrangements should be required, especially if you have any new or expectant mothers. Can people use the toilet etc. in the production areas?

I wouldn't want the explain to an inspector why somebody was using the toilet in the dark when they slip and hurt themselfs.

(PS I was a HSE Inspector in the past)

Thanks for the replies. The work is planned for the middle of the day (which I belive is immovable). I have put this down to poor management really and the best way forawrd would be to have given the three staff affected (ladies who are not pregnant) an exended lunch period without any loss of pay. I have expressed concern that if any accident were to occur due to a lack of lighting then we would look seriously foolish
