All,
I have come across some arm mounted data scanners. These read bar-codes. The scanner keypad sits on the forearm and the user has a laser mounted on his finger to do the scanning.
The info from the supplier is not very detailed ( "avoid wearing for long periods" - gee, thanks not very helpful).
The units weigh in at around 500grams.
My question is: Has anyone ever assessed what the upper weight limit on this sort of device can be? There must be a point after which it becomes "unsafe" to wear or the wear period must be restricted?
Any ergo experts out there??
My only thought is that you might assess it as a load under the manual handling regs - as it is basically carried around with you all day??
Comments welcome - bit stumped.

Not an ergo expert by any means, but as I have to use these things on a regular basis...
They're not covered by the Manual Handling Regs as far as I'm aware. As for time limits, they can become uncomfortable after a while (for me, 30 mins - but I have RSI in my right arm, so have to be careful how long I use the terminal for)
Job rotation and training in proper use should reduce discomfort, but it depends on the individual user, length of usage etc.
Not much help, I know, but hopefully will do until someone more knowledgeable than my humble self appears :-)
