Posted By stephen d clarke Hi, I think the occasional use of what are called non-integrated work platforms is allowed in the UK for short duration tasks, but as they do not provide as high a level of safety as purpose built access equipment their use is not encouraged. Examples of occasional use e.g. non-routine maintenance tasks; replacement of light fittings if not part of periodic maintenance; tasks that otherwise would be carried out less safely using a ladder; to check condition of roof lights. But periodic maintenance, order picking, routine maintenance, transfer of goods or people would not be classed as occasional use. The HSE guidance document Working Platforms (Non-Integrated) on Fork Lift Trucks PM28 is what you need. Steve

Posted By chrisroyal This scenario actually came up in a NEBOSH Diploma exam: Unit C, July 2007: factors to ensure safety when using an FLT to lift a personnel cage to a height of 4 metres. The examiner's report gives a model answer to the question, and it's downloadable from the NEBOSH site: http://www.nebosh.org.uk...ents=&CAT_ID=76&P_ID=157 Free of charge.
