I am writing a risk assessment for drilling a concrete warehouse floors to take 12 mm X 80 – 100mm anchors for pallet racking using a hammer drill. Trigger time is in broad terms 1 hour per day.
I have come across information on the Health hazards from Reparable Crystalline Silica dust causing heath hazards such as Silicosis. I understand The COSHH WELL is 0.1 mg.
Has anyone already looked at a process like this and does it dissever deep investigation, health monitoring etc… or will simple precautions such as the wearing dust masks be sufficient?

What will you be doing to reduce the emission of dust from the drilling?

Currently nothing except changing drill regularly to keep trigger time to a minimum.

There are other things you can do, such as regular wetting down of the surface to be drilled, using drills with a vacuum attachment, portable LEV, respirators with suitable filters etc.

You also need to consider that the process is likely to be very noisy and could produce harmful vibration so noise induced hearing loss and HAVS will also be a consideration.
