Hello All,
Help please - Does anybody have any completed risk assessment formats that use a standard 5X5 Matrix (or similar) that I could develop for carrying out and completing hand arm vibration risk assessments within our Company?
Many thanks and best wishes

Its not the hand arm vibration that should be risk assessed its the operation of the equipment that leads to it. Don't try and risk assess the outcome you will waste an awful lot of time, look at the operation that can cause it and reduce the amount of hand arm vibration the user is exposed to.

Interesting way of looking at it.

Reg 5 of the 'vibration regs' says

employers shall assess daily exposure to vibration by means of observation of specific working practices; reference to relevant information on the probable magnitude of the vibration corresponding to the equipment used in the particular working conditions; and if necessary, measurement of the magnitude of vibration to which his employees are liable to be exposed,

If you don't assess the vibration levels how would you know if the person hand been exposed to the EAV or ELV and whether or not you need to reduce exposure to below ELV and provide health surveillance above EAV?

HAV assessment pretty simple using the HSE tool and then if the assessment doesn't suggest a significant risk - pretty much job done. If it does then you can look at the usual interventions.
