Hi
Trying again for some feedback :)
Can anyone enlighten me on rundown times for bench mounted / pedestal grinders? I am aware of the 10 sec rule for Woodworking equipment such as planers/circ saws etc but can't find anything on grinders. Perhaps there is none and it all comes down to the RA and suitable guarding etc.
We have a wolf pedestal grinder with a run down time of over 4 mins which seems excessive. The dewalt equivalent is under one minute! Manufacturers are not very helpful and HSE have referred question to an inspector (not heard yet)

Hi,
I've come across this like you for woodworking machinery/retrofitting of brakes etc but not for abrasive wheels. I think its down to risk assessment and Reg 15 of PUWER where the action of the stop control should bring the equipment to a safe condition in a safe manner, 4 min does seem a long time perhaps the manufacturers can retrofit a suitable braking system that could reduce this time. Maybe BS EN 60204 Stop Controls might help.

Hi all
Did the course last week to get a good understanding of abrasive wheels and we all stood there while the wheel stopped, seemed like a life time! We did ask the question and were told that is how it is, you cannot stop the wheel it has to stop on it's own?
