I have the latest HSE free leaflet are there any other free resources available to make 3 hours of training seem bearable.

The training is for objects no people feel free to email me.

Hi,
I'd use info from the MAC Tool page of the HSE website:

Its a shame that the HSE only put out a cartoon NAPO DVD on the subject as its one of the highest areas of injury.

Good day people. I am a care home manager, and a 'lapsed' manual handling trainer wishing to update.I was most interested to read that there is no actual requirement for manual handling trainers to update as I cannot find any course which will enable me to do so as it has been about three years since I practised as such. This is despite the fact that I used to teach manual handling four days a week for a local college so have perhaps had more experience than the average trainer. I did find one site where I could update on line through distance learning and whilst I thought this odd, I thought I would try it (especially as it was only £50)but now I cannot find the site again and I have lost the information I downloaded. Can anyone please help with this or offer advices as to the recommended frequency of mh trainers. If anyone can confirm that it is not a legal requirement, then this would at least give me breathing space. It just so happens that three mh trainers have all gone out of date at the same time for various reasons, and we cannot get on a course for several months. We have several new staff just entering the profession and several needing to update. My trainers all have the relevant experience and I don't consider them outdated in their practice at all. Advices please?

You could cut the training down to a more bareable time?

Why make it 3 hours if this isn't effective and you have to scratch around for bits to fill it?

The regulations were amended in 2002 and HSE guidance published in 2004 ISBN 0 7176 2823 X

I don't believe you have to retrain every three years in law but you must keep up to date and competent - a good start would be to get their book.

Thanks for the valuable input.

Thank you so much for that information. It is difficult keeping up with everything and I have always understood that we had to refresh annually. Reading contributions from others, it would appear I have been mistaken in that belief.
It will be an interesting talking point when CSCI come a calling! Thanks again.

For any who actually wish to know:-
Apart from the First Aid at Work 4 Day course, there are NO legally defined refresher or renewal requirements for any of the topics mentioned in this post [pause to re-check post contents! phew - remembered correctly]; nor in most of the other topics that people think have a defined "shelf-life", inc FLTs, PAT testing and so on.

AHS has it right!

Tell the sharks to go feed on someone else provided you have a suitable in-house system to demonstrate that you maintain the appropriate competences to the necessary [you define that as well] level.
