Posted By Barrie (Badger) Etter With the credit crunch my company wants to diversify and to farm me out as a solo safety advisor. Never having worked solo before but will be working as such one or two days a week is expected, I'm at a complete loss where to start next, so I've turned to my fellow IOSH members for suggestions for: Insurance - what is required? travel - how far from works base? should a separate company be set up with links to main company? Any other bits not included here.
As ever, most grateful thanks for all advice offered.
Regards,
Badger

Posted By Barrie (Badger) Etter I have worked in engineering most of my life with a brief foray to double glazing and currently with a electronic product manufacturer. It is the last two companys where I picked up safety and completed NVQ Dip. Company base in Hinckley near Leicester and home base Warwick. Have experience in installing ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001. Currently working as an Quality assistant picking up enviro and of course safety.
Hope this helps.

When you say your company wishes to 'farm you out' are they intending that they will be the contractual partner with the client or will you be acting on your own account?
If the former, then they should be the ones to concern themselves with issues such as insurance, invoicing, credit control, etc. And presumably they would then pay you your normal salary, expenses, etc. whilst you are working for someone else.
If you will be working for your own account, the this is a different matter and you will need to consider yourself for that part of your activities as self-employed. If that is the case then if you wish, contact me off the forum and I will see what I can do to help.

Hi Chris
As of yet I don't have all the info on who's doing what. So base it that I'm working for myself but will liase with the works because they are acting as sales pitchers.
