Posted By Eddie Wall I have recently come across an industrial unit involved in extrusion of foam, used for underlay on wood flooring. The foam is extruded using isobutane. Does anyone know where I may find information on the process and more specifically the risks involved with the use of isobutane in the process and the potential for an explosive atmosphere. Is there a need for an EPD, use of Ex rated equipment etc.

Posted By Peter MacDonald Eddie It poses no risk at all as the volumes are very small. They can be be shredded mechanically without any explosion risk. There is full information on these and the preceeding ODS and ODP panels on the website www.epic.uk.comEPIC Engineered Panels in Construction. I would draw your attention also to the guide issued by EPIC in association with the NFDC called "Insulated Panels, Identification and Disposal" Regards Peter

Posted By Peter MacDonald A lesson to me there to always read the question twice before answering.
My response was referring to Insulated Panels rather than the backing to floorboards.
Apologies for that.
