Posted By M Mosley Can anyone help me decipher what is required in terms of the standards applicable for electrical equipment for a zone 22 area? I know that this would mean category 3 equipment but is there a standard which sets out what the specific requirements are for this and equipment for other zones? Any information to help clarify this area gratefully received.

Posted By FAH Hi M I presume that you already have the HSE suite of DSEAR publications - L134 to L138? You might also like to have a trawl through the BSI Learning Centre if you're a member. Frank Hallett

Posted By M Mosley Hi Frank Thanks for the information. I have L138 but not the more specific guidance. I have found several references to standards e.g. BS EN 50020:2002 ‘Electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres’. However, I guess I need to be more specific. What I would like to know is - Is category 3 electrical equipment for use in zone 22 normally specified as intrinsically safe?
