Do you mean Petrol or Diesel fuelled? There is a big difference in the flammability and volatility of these fuels. However, I know of no regulation in UK which would relate to this.

You would need to do a risk assessment, ie what would the seriousness of any fire be, then how likely is the fire to start (in this case using the FLT as the ignition source, or the actual FLT catching fire).

I hope this helps.

There is some very useful international information from the Australians.

The second link is to ATEX in Europe.

There is no Explosive atmospheres in the warehouse, otherwise, LPG forklift can not be used.

Steve,

The question is asked by someone in my group.

*******
Dear goup members,

In recent safety inspection, My plant was asked to add in a fireproof
mantle in our gas forklift truck when it is working in the warehouse
which store flammable solid materials by local safety bureau. I want
to hear your comments.

Regards,

Jason Sun

********

I think the bureau is over reactive. But I am afraid I may be wrong, so ask for your comment here.

Well if the area is not even "A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of flammable substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only." then its ok.

Perhaps you need to revisit your DSEAR risk assessment?

However I can also see the flip side, RA said it wasnt a zoned area, however a risk, although extremely small was identified, would it have been reasonably practical to replace FLT with Diesel or fix a flame arrestor?
