Posted By davepennington2009 I am at present carrying out the role as a safety advisor and am fairly new to this role, third week in. Method statements and risk assessments were put into place before my arrival, but since then working procedures are to be altered this being that scaffolders will now be erecting ladder beams approx 20 metres from ground level using steel fixed girders and beams to tie from. I could do with some information on procedures for working with ladder beams and also any examples of risk assessments/method statements invoving such work. Much appreciated dave

Posted By Martyn Hendrie Dave, My understanding is that the use of ladder beams incorporated into a scaffold should be subject to a design check (by a competent person). Installation should be in accordance with a drawing(s) and supervised by an "Advanced Scaffolder" Hope this helps Martyn

Posted By Safe System following on: therefore the scaffolders should be providing YOU with the correct MS & RAs. If they are not working in accordance with what they have supplied then maybe worth reminding them that if they have an accident they can kiss goodbye to any compensation...

Posted By SNS For more info on scaffolding generally have a look at : www.nasc.org.uk/ they have some free leaflets, and some expensive booklets!, and supply guidance to the HSE. I am informed by my local (SW Region) inspector that the SG 04-05 plus annexe is what the HSE will be looking at if they come to look at your operation. Regards, S

Posted By SNS Correction to my last .... part of what they will look at is SG4:05 which is to do with fall prevention. TG20 is also being quoted to me for consideration - we bought a copy but I have to get my scaffolders to translate it into english for names of parts and terms etc. S
