Can anyone point me in the right direction re: washing facilities please?
Imagine if there was a small office area (manned 24 hours/7 days week with approx 6 members of staff) with a toilet area off the office (seperated by one door) and an area for eating and cooking which is again is seperated by one door also.
The only sink available between the three areas is a very small sink located in the toilet area (in effect it is situated between toilet and office with door on each side) and there is no sink in eating area.
I cannot find anywhere in Welfare Regs that says there must be seperate sinks for washing of hands and washing of crockery........
Help
I want to put a report for an additional sink in the area before the MD but need legislation or guidance to back up the report

Nothing in Welafre Regs, about providing a sink for washing crockery although reference 'good hygiene standards'. Would providing a vending machine get round this problem? Strictly no room containing a sanitary convenience should communicate directly with a room where food is eaten.

Hello,

Just wondered ... Where do you get your drinking water? From the sink in the bathroom? If so, is it safe to drink the water and is the water tested at appropriate intervals? [refer to L8 ACOPS].

I think there's lots to take into consideration here.

If you look at the HSE's Leaflet ING293(rev1) it will help. Risk Assess the situation and look at the regulations including Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regs 1992.

Hope you find this useful. Also, read down at number of staff -v- number of bathrooms/sinks.
