Posted By teaboy afternoon all just a quick one for you we have a contract to erect 1.6km of fencing around a farm site. Can anyone tell me if fencing is 'construction' work? it might fit into Reg 2(a) 'repair, upkeep and other maintenance' what do you think?? cheers

Posted By Richard Altoft It is simpler than that as a new fence would be "construction". If the work will take less than 30 days of construction and less than 500 person-days then it is not notifiable so only some of the CDM regs apply. ACOP to CDM excludes tree planting and general horticulture but fence erection is in my opinion firmly construction and hence within CDM unless it was very lightweight and very temporary such as sheep fencing, electric fence or temp rabbit fencing around new trees etc. hope that helps R
