Posted By Brian S Looking for some advice please... I saw a corrosive substance (beerline cleaner) in a container that gets fed through a tube when needed. The problem is that the tube is constantly in the container meaning that the lid is not replaced. Is it decent enough to just replace the lid and bore a hole in the lid - with the tube being run through the hole? Is there another sensible way? Thanks in advance, B

Posted By Chris Packham Brian Is the container secure or can it easily be knocked over? I would suggest that if it is secure then what you are suggesting would be adequate. However, if it was possible to knock the container over, then either this should be prevented or you would need something much more chemical-tight as a connection system. However, not having actually seen the situation this is only a view not a firm recommendation. Chris

Posted By Brian Hagyard Brian. I would agree with Chris. I assume you are talking about an automatic beer line cleaning system, of which I have only seen a couple in action. It is my understanding that beer line cleaner is a hazard when it comes into physical contact with the skin or worse the eyes etc. I don't believe it give any hazardous vapours, particularly in a cold cellar, but that's based on the MSD's I've seen and having read some of the other threads on this site I am not as confident as I would have once been about that! If my assumption is correct then the system you describe has reduced the riskiest part of beer line cleaning which is the dilution process of the concentrate chemical, providing as already stated the bulk container cannot fall over. Posted By Chris Packham Brian Provided you don't introduce an acid into the beer system cleaner, which will almost certainly be highly alkaline, then the possibility of vapour is highly unlikely and the plug suggested would be more than adequate. Chris

Posted By Brian S Thanks all for the kind responses and suggestions. Your expertise has helped a lot in helping me decide. I will replace the cap and bore a hole in it. It is steady and could not be kicked over to create splashes. Cheers, B
