Posted By Alex Ryding Hi all, I've seen lifts have been a frequent topic, but I've not seen the answer my my specif question... Is there a tolerance for an acceptable height difference between the floor of a building and the floor of a lift car when stopped? I has someone trip out of a lift, thankfully not hurt; when we got the lift company in they said it was within their acceptable tolerance of 30mm. That seems an awful big trip hazard. Are they correct or is this their own internal tolerance? WHSW reg 12 surely can't allow for 30mm? Thanks (and happy Easter)

Posted By Bob Youel both floors should be level with each other where a person passes from the lift to the outside & VV - As for 30 mm; I seems quite a large step! Get them to show you the official - not their own company spec - guidelines that state 30mm and even with that you should go for a level surface irrespective as when you are in court 30mm will seem an awful big step!

Posted By Phil Rose I don't think you will find anything in H&S regs as such - try Safed or BS http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg339.pdf
