Posted By Brian S Is it possible to check if someone is qualified in Health and Safety? NEBOSH - the industry standard, for example say it is confidential and will not verify if someone has passed an exam of theirs. Qualification certificates can be "made up" on computers. I understand that competence - rather than qualifications is required (MHSWR 7) but if someone says they are qualified - how can this be verified? Cheers, B

Posted By stephen d clarke Hi, Looking at my certificates they all have a stamped seal of the organisation/university/college and post 1990 have a reference number. Employers ask for these, photocopy them and want a passport/birth certificate to prove you are who you say you are. Steve

Posted By EI Brian, it is possible to check. If you have a copy of the certificate, talk to the awarding body and give the details stated on the certificate, they will confirm if it is "correct". They will not go into a great deal of detail....yes or no is enough. FYI, I always check main certificates presented. Approx 4 years ago, I contacted NEBOSH who confirmed my suspicions that a General Certificate provided by a candidate for a position I was recruiting for, was actually a forgery. They thanked me for bringing the issue to their attention, indicated they would take the issue further, just did not let me know the outcome. Regards EI
