Posted By TonyB Hi Pete,
Its not just this episode. I've seen them using a circular saw in the street, with no guarding! In general if you watch TV (and in particular these 'real life' type programmes) you will see the most horrendous unsafe acts. I remember seeing an episode of Rogue Traders were the main presenter and the 'expert' sat on the ridge of roof just for a chat about what trader. From the camera angle it was clear that if either had slipped backwards that no safeguards were in place!
Do the HSE watch TV - yes. Do they act - I don't know. When I was an inspector I asked just that question. The answer I got was that somebody centrally dealt with these issues. Not much of an answer!

Posted By Pete48 Sounds like it was a real life representation then? I can see that any day of the week in any number of workplaces. The trouble with safety is that we have gone too far some would say? What could an inspector actually do according to their protocols I wonder? Bearing in mind that the act may have taken place some months previously.
