Posted By Hossam Hi,
I would like to know from those with related background and knowledge,is fiberglass hazardous?
more specific..I have got a proposal from a subcontractor to use fire retardant blanket containing fiberglass..Ok there is no MSDS,yet he provided an authorized lab test results that stated "Zero Asbestos" as being our main concern.
Now due to OSHA,Filament fiberglass is not a cancer causing agent! anybody has further or different information?
thanks

Posted By Chris Packham According to "Fisher's Contact Dermatitis" fibreglass can cause dermatitis. Biopsies of fibreglass dermatitis can reveal glass particles in a granulomatous reactions or spongiosis mimicking an allergic contact dermatitis. As a patch test would be negative, unless a biopsy is taken and examined under a microscope, this can lead to a misdiagnosis and/or inappropriate treatment.
Furthermore, fibreglass, although itself not a sensitiser, can be coated with other chemicals, such as formaldehyde resin. Given that the individual fibres, particularly the larger ones, can penetrate the skin, there can be a risk of both irritant and allergic skin reactions.
