I have a defibrillator which is kept in the security control room. It is accessible 24/7 for trained personnel. The security control room is staffed during emergencies.
If I have a need to evacuate the building is it best to take the defibrillator to the Assembly Point and run the risk of not knowing exactly where it is or leave it in situ until/unless needed? We can get to it during an emergency or it can be delivered on request.

Hi.
In my opinion, I would leave the defibrillator where it is unless it is needed. Simply on the grounds that if you have no immediate need take it to the assembly point then why move it.
Also if it is needed somewhere else your assembly point could be further away from the person needing it than the security office.

currently you have the defib in a fixed place and it is a matter of chance how far away the patient is at the time. Ask your self -- In an emergency how much further away is any potential patient. Unless further than the norm I would suggest you leave defib and the trained personnel in the security post if safe to do so and establish good communications with them. Possible with good comms then defib would get to assembly point in an emergency or drill situation than to a random spot in the works in normal times when communications could be less effctive. Why not at your next fire drill also just a few minutes later have a defib/first aid drill at least as far as testing communicating the (extra) emergency and fetching the kit and getting trained defib operator to scene.

Ask yourself:
If the building is fully evacuated will someone be allowed back in to pick up the defib.
Our evacuation procedure is for the security officer to take the defib / crash bag from the security office and have it readily available at the central assembly point which wardens report to to declare their areas checked.

Thank you folks, I was thinking pretty much on the same lines.
