Posted By john thos 147 We have a high percentage of accidents involving our employees strikung their fingers thumbs hands etc when using steel id stampers. I have looked into this generaly with a view of stopping the accidents happening, and for god knows why i am struugling.Let me try to explain: the hammers in use sre fit for purpose the id stampers are obviously designed for stamping . the items they are stamping are usually flat. My view is that it is human error.but i dont know how to handle it. Is the risk significant:potentially yes broken fingers etc (should never really lead to amputation I hope) can i sstop the stamping ? no customer requires it can i reduce ? No can i isolate the risk ? potentially by using stamp holders ( these are expensive and we will require a lot of them and several differnt types/sizes0 Can I control ? I dont think so ? supplly PPE ? Op's allready have riggers ( Whether the op's are wearing them at the time of the accident , i am not sure but as usual have been assured that they have but have my doubts. personnally i am looking at this with the view that evertything we do in life normally contains some sort of risk (slipping in bath , car crash, tripping on a paving slab etc) please answer all views welcome as i would like to know how different people would handle this. regards johnp

Posted By Tabs You can knock up stamp holders out of pretty much anything ... if the stamps being used are the common 1/4" square stock fashion yourself a hand tool similar to an over sized sewing needle, put the stamp into the needle "eye" and holding the needle, strike the stamp. Make the holder from aluminium or wood for comfort, maybe a bit of foam lining on the "eye" for grip ... that sort of thing. It takes marginally longer this way though.

Posted By Ron Hunter Are there time constraints? Are your people having to enter a long code on an "awkward" object? Could the type be entered on a softer label at and affixed via (e.g.) hammer screws? You could go as far as sub-contracting these labels. Large number of sequential sets should cost you pennies each.

Posted By john thos 147 There are litrally thousands of codes to be stamped. have just been discussing the mo grip idea with the supercisors on the shop floor (mainly ex engineers tool makers.i designed a tool myself but for some reason they dont seem keen as the id stamps vary from about 10mm-25mm.Combination of up too about 10 letters. have found a stamp on the shop floor that has a handle welded too it have been told a lot of welders do this. I personnally am happy with it but supers tell me its illegal as it can have a mettalurgical effect on the stamp and cause it to shatter
