Posted By Gordon T Hi All, I received this enquiry recently and thought I'd share it with you all: >Hi Gordon, Just been on the IOSH site looking for advice on racking. Do you have any calculation templates I can use in order to mark the racking correctly? Many Thanks Hi, I wish it were that simple, there are several criteria that are required in order to establish the correct load data for any racking system I'm afraid. e.g; Type; Drive-In, Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR), Cantilever etc. Manufacturer; each manufacturer has their own load data tables. Gage/Duty; each manufacturer has several types of load bearing members For each system. Configuration and operating dimensions; Height, Width, Depth, Beams, number of Levels and height of the first beam level etc. All of the above can then be used to calculate a correct MAXIMUM SAFE WORKING LOAD UDL (Uniformly Distributed Load) SWL Notice Which also has specific requirements pertaining to material construction, display information and mounting Location calculated and supplied By a ‘Competent Specifier’ The Load Notice must be ; Displayed in Conspicuous Locations Corrosion-Resistant Mechanically Secured approx 2.0 m Above Floor The minimum display information should include; Suppliers Name & Trademark Safe Working UNIT Load Safe Working Beam Level Safe Working Bay Load Reference Number Height to First Beam Level & Beam Pitch all on top of which requires that the racking be maintained in a S&S condition under PUWER and inspected by an independent and competent person within the previous 12 months, depending on use. Hope this helps G.
