Hi all
I wonder if someone can help me. I work for a UK based company with some facilities in Europe (Belgium, France, Netherlands and Germany). I am OK for the UK regs for things like LOLER, PSSR, PAT Testing, DSE etc but i am having big touble trying to find out exactly what the equivalent is in Europe. It seems to me (from what i have found out so far) that there are no such regulations or guidance. However, on speaking to my colleagues in the countries on Lift Inspections, they say that these are being completed. The problem is that i am reasonably happy that we are compliant but i am not convinced as to what we are compliant to. Does anyone have any experience with EU regs that can help me on this one? I guess what i am looking to do is have a LOLER equivalent per country that i can tick against.

Hi,

I've had the same problem before. Can I suggest that you work backwards. Start with the UK Regulations and determine the EU directive that it implements. Then search under the EU Directive. There are a number of webpages that summarise the member state laws that have been used to implement the Directive. Sorry can't remember which one I used. Then you can search for that law. Use something link Google translator to read the websites.

(A problem you can have is search non-English websites using English terms. Again google can automatically translate and search using its built in functions - see Google Help)

Hope it helps.

This might help too:

http://www.cranestodayma...ry.asp?storycode=2003936

which gives one that you are looking for: EU directive AUWED 95/63/EC. This was the directive which instituted LOLER in the UK and can be used to find others on the OSHA website above

Maybe i am going about this the wrong way here. Thanks for the links though.

Heres the situation i am currently in. I am being asked whether my facilities in Europe (lets take Netherlands as an example) are compliant to H&S regulations.

Obviously the first question is what regulations? Lets choose LOLER as a starting point.

We all know that LOLER is a UK Regulation which has been created from the EU Directive 95/63/EC. How do i find out what the NL Regulation is that encompasses this EU Directive? I am either missing something or doing some wrong somewhere as i cannot find anything that says that lifts (eg) should be inspected every 6 months (eg).

What the guys in the Netherlands are telling me is that the lifts need to be inpected by the 'lift institute' annually which is a government run thing.

I am finding this extremely painful to get this information, i am sure it is out there somewhere but i just cannot seem to find it. Also i do not know whether the 'lift institute' thing is correct because of this fact.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am sure i am heading the right direction but this information (in decent terms) must be out there somewhere.

Lee, people like IOSH and RoSPA must have links with their European counterparts. HSE too.

What about your insurers?

It would appear (so far in my investigation) that the plant is not insured. This is the same in the UK but was easier because i resolved this by getting an insurance inspector over to do the inspections. Not much hope in the EU for it either though :(
