Posted By Builder693 We are a construction company who has a diesel fuel tank in our yard. It is operated by a hand pump and is within a secondary bund made of concrete blocks. I need to do a risk assessment for the guys filling their vans and I am also wondering if we need to paint the inside of the secondary bund with some sort of bitumen. Can anyone help as to where I can find guidance and what I should be looking at Many thanks

Posted By MarcusB Not an area I'm too familiar with but you should find the following page on the HSE's website useful: http://www.hse.gov.uk/co...tech/techmeascontain.htm

Posted By FAH Hi there Builder First, bitumen is porous to diesel & petrol, so that won't do it - sorry. Second, you don't specifically identify the focus of the RA for fuelling vans & it has been assumed that you're considering the environmental issues; in which case the previous guidance will be of value. Howver, don't forget that Manual Handling, CoSHH, Workplace & Fire Regs will all need to be considered as well. Frank Hallett

Posted By Chas Have a look at the HPA website with regard to diesel. The information provided by them should help with the risk assessment process and application of control measures. See the link below. http://www.hpa.org.uk/we...e/HPAweb_C/1194947407378
