Morning
We carry a small quantity of detonators# as part of our rail operations division. The van is suitable, they are kept in the correct tube and in only the quantity required for that shift.
What regulations apply here? I have been looking at the various 'Carriage of..etc' regulations but have drawn a blank.
Cheers
Ian
# detonators are strapped onto on railway lines to facilitate emergency stops by exploding under high pressure from the wheels. They are very stable indeed in normal storage conditions.

The industry and UK explosives regs call them "fog signals" not "detonators" (they don't detonate, they explode.. technical difference but it matters) - there's a detailed RSSB code of practice document all about them:

Ian, I'm not sure about this; but I suspect that the Carriage of Dangerous Goods legislation may also have to be considered.
Also, are they classified as explosives? If "yes", you really ouhght to look at the explosives regs as well.

The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2004 applies.
We carry similar amounts and they have to be in a steel or wooden box, which is mounted to the vehicle and can be padlocked. The detonators have to be separate from the occupiers, so you need to make sure that there is a separator between them and the detonators - not always in place with some vans.
Because you are carrying small amounts no markings are required.
