In our factory there is a mains gas supply feeding the heating and hot water systems. We have always had this serviced annually but have now been told by the contractor that this is not required (obviously got too much work on!). Most of the guidance that I can find on gas safety focuses on domestic gas safety. Can anyone give me a steer as to the requirements for maintenance / testing of industrial gas appliances please?

Statutory Instrument 1994 No. 1886
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994 PART F (Miscellaneous)
Regulation 35 "Maintenance" refers.(free from opsi.gov.uk)
You have been given poor advice.

Although not required to be tested annually, it should be tested by Capita registered personnel on regular basis to show maintenance.
Section 4 and 35 of the above mentioned regs apply. (these regs were incorporated in impliment council directive which came in force in 1996.

Hi.
I presume you are in the UK. In R.O.Ireland non domestic gas appliances must be tested every year(IS820). I presume the UK is similar.
In addition I presume the manufacturer's give recommendations about servicing.
Servicing is even more important when appliances get older.
