Does anyone have an opinion on this.

an employee has been off work for 6 weeks after twisting his ankle whilst moving a work platform.

When he attended hospital they placed him in a cast because on x ray they found a cyst on the bone.

He has now put in another sick note for 4 weeks and may need an operation.

the question is, what does this come down to the original accident or the cyst and should the 2 be related?

Any input would be a big help

A ten week absence for a twisted ankle seems excessive and the main reason for the absence would appear to be the subsequently discovered medical condition. Did that condition make the employee more likely to suffer a twisted ankle? If not, then the two appear to be unconnected (except by co-incidence).
