Posted By safetyamateur Wonderful storm just broke overhead. Do I have an excuse to not anwer the phone? I understand there's a programme airing soon all about lightning stikes and it features a man who got a terrible shock whilst using a landline phone. True?

Posted By FAH Hi safetyamateur In my previous incarnation as a firefighter, over the years I either attended, or was made aware of, several instances of lightning strikes doing serious structural damage and serious personal injury. These ranged from domestic premises with the gable end wall blown out to a workplace PBX that exploded inside the building with no other obvious damage; also included 1 guy who was leaning on his metal washing-line pole [about 3.5metres high] in his garden [best excuse I've ever heard for not putting the washing out]. However, I understand that the risk is far greater if you're a golfer or a horse-rider!! Moral, don't answer the phone - especially if you're about to whack the ball from the back of a horse!
