Hi, I returned from holiday in Florida last week by air and noted a BCF extinguisher at a fire point on the plane.
I thought that type of extinguishing medium was banned?

Halon 1301 - EC Regulation 2037/2000 annex II allows the use for safety critical systems - aircraft is identified as one for the protection of crew compartments.

Picking hairs I know, but I think you will find it would be Halon 1211 BCF not 1301 BTM. But you are spot on with where it can be used. Did you know that the car transporters on Channel Tunnel link still use 1301 as a fixed fire extinguishing agent.

And why not.
Possibly the best all round fire extinguishing agent there was, and banned for all the wrong reasons.

Your correct, it is and was the best. The ban under the Montreal protocol was a knee jerk reaction.
