What type of kitchen fire :)
aFFF is a water based foam that can be used on Class A and B fires (Solid and flammible liquids)
Wet Chemical can be used on class F (cookking oil fires)

Hi Prads!
Don't use AFFF for chip pan/fryer fires due to the water content. A fire blanket or wet chemical would be recommended.

Wet chemical extinguishers, indicated by a canary yellow band, are suitable for a class F fire i.e industrial fat fryers. The chemical develops a soapy emulsion and seals in the vapour, cuts off air but does not cool the oil. It is important with this type of extinguisher, to discharge all of the extinguisher otherwise you will not get the full depth blanket over the oil and the fire could reignite. Only staff that have been trained in this type of extinguisher should use it.
An AFFF foam extinguisher, whilst you can use it on oil, is not ideal. The frying oil would be at a temperature that could evaporate the water content in the foam and this could cause the oil to reignite.

Some good advice here especially about using all the contents of the extinguisher. Once used - you have to have it recharged - so you might as well use it all.
