Posted By Phil Reilly Hi folks, is there a prescribed maintenance routine for steel fire escape staircases? Apart from the obvious tightness of fixings, welds and corrosion what else is checked??

Posted By martinw Phil, I have never found any. I remember looking at Cumbria Fire Brigade's risk assessment guide for pubs and hotels - they recommended a three-yearly inspection by a competent person! Otherwise, back to basics unless someone else knows otherwise. Have a look at: Emergency escapes - BS 5395-1, BS 5395-2, BS 5395-3 or BS EN 1125 which may help. Martin
