Posted By Swis Positive risk taking is taking a certain approach after analysing the pros and cons of specific action. You weigh up whether the action would result in more advantages than disadvantages.(The final result may be different to what you’ve thought)

Posted By Swis In summary, it is a term introduced by some lunatic to make life more complicated.
Life (day to day living) in general is a ‘positive risk taking’. Everyone tries to take steps towards their betterment but end result is not always as acquired.

Posted By A Campbell Is this with regards to policies under care systems etc?
Plenty of policies on Google regarding this...putting risk management of life experiences into simple terms!

Posted By Ron Hunter Or, from a life-skills perspective, it's how we learn (particularly as infants)?

Posted By David F Spencer Think of it as crossing the road. There's a car coming but it's too far away to hit you if the driver maintains a constant speed. You can't be certain - you cross. 999 times out of 1000 you'll be safe, but on the 1000th, you'll have to rush. You've taken a positive risk each time.

Posted By Tabs People die from general anesthetics. People die from liver failure.
Do you operate under a general to do a liver transplant?
Answer: yes, because lower percentages die of GA than of liver failure.
You are taking a positive risk.

Posted By Swis I'm not sure whether stuff4blokes examples reflect postive risk taking??
IMHO - some do, some don't.

Posted By Stuff4blokes My examples are all instances of risk taking when aware of the consequences of failure. It could be argued that these risk takers may not all be aware of the probability of being hurt but I suggest that most of the risk assessments made in industry and commerce are based more on consequence than true probability.
My undrstanding of positive risk taking is when one knows what may go wrong but still makes the positive decision to take the action.
