I always wondered why the US had so many Christmas Tree fires, then I lived there and realised that most trees are cut in November, erected after Thanksgiving and generally left in warm (or even hot - 75 F wasn´t unusual in winter with the boiler running) houses to dry out before people attached candles or fags or whatever.
