Hi all,

Ive just received my NEBOSH results back & got a credit, which I was very pleased with. However I was ONE mark from getting a distinction which has left me sort of thinking "If only" so to speak.

I was mulling over appealing to get it remarked etc & was wondering if anyone else had got theirs remarked?

I know scores can got up as well as down, but as its got to drop around 30 marks to get me into the other bracket, could it be worth the gamble?

Thoughts?

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy,

Wow, you were close - NEBOSH is a tough marking system and I know it isn't eays gettig less than you think you could have - I got 1:1:4 with the 4 on the practical knocking me down to a credit - GUTTED!

MY guess is lots of people would say let it slide and focus on doing a great job and I can still understand that a distinction on the wall and the C.V is more satisfying.

Chances are the papers are well marked and benchmarked but hey what have you got to lose?

Dave.

PS: Either way a credit is still a good result - well done!

You have got a credit, well done, that is a brilliant achievement.

Don't be disappointed!

Congratulations on your result.

Its been a while since I did any NEBOSH exams, but i remember being told that if you missed out by a few marks then an appeal was highly unlikely to succeed as they would have already been through a stringent moderation process. I cannot confirm if was actually ever true or still the case.

Andy - that is a great result and will stand you well; I got a distinction in both the cert and diploma and it is a great feeling for sure. Difficult to say whether this is worth the appeal or not as I am unsure of the flexibility of the examiners.

If its for your own personal satisfaction then it couldnt hurt.

In terms of the C.V. ive never put my grades on my C.V. and have never been asked by anyone ive been for an interview with (i got a distinction in the Cert and a pass for the Dip), so if its for that reason then probably not worth it.

If you can afford the fees for the EAR (Enquiries About Results) then you have nothing to loose. Note you have one month to do so though.

Congratulations on an excellent pass.

But what difference does it make if it is a credit or a distinction?? Ego massage??

At the end of the day - employers are looking at the certificate held - not how well you passed.
It is a pass and the way towards the next stage. So maybe a small bit of humility to people who failed on 49% may be appropriate??

Well done on your achievement.

However as a previous poster mentions it does cost to have this reviewed. However Andy, I would not see the point if it is a career move as the NGC will be what is specified rather than level of achievement.

Although if it is purely for your own personal reasons then go for it.

When you say 'one mark.' Do you mean one section out of the three - or just one solitary point short of a distinction result?

If the latter, and twere me, I would just for my own curiosity. I will say that I would have expected the marks have been 'maxed' already though to see if a distinction could be given.

Whilst there are probably some that wouldn't see the point, I would - just for the 'crack.'

Congratulations BTW.

Well done, I passed last year and missed a distinction by only 2 marks overall. My lecturers all advised that it was highly unlikely that an appeal would succeed. BUT if I had only missed by one mark, I may have been tempted. Congratulations on your credit!

The difference between a pass and a distinction is the depth of your knowledge, any employer worth their salt will know this!
