Posted By artisdeeian Anyone had many complaints from their workforce regarding wearing hard hats, safety spectacles, and not being able to wear shorts in this hot weather. If so, what control measures are you installing to make them more comfortable without doing a 'U' turn in wearing this type of PPE.? Cheers Ian.

Posted By garyh They should try working in a steelworks! Show them the "remember Charlie" video. Being hot and uncomfortable is nothing compared to the pain of being burnt, injured etc.

Posted By Lee Mac Ian I as many other H&S managers have had this issue to deal with over the past month or so. Rehydrate, increase breaks where necessary, rehydrate. There was a bit of a semi uprising on one of our sites in Belfast but with a bit of a commonsense meeting with the main chargehand for each squad I with the Site Manager explained the company's position with this- our risk assessments showed a clear need for the hard hat and I brought along a few articles regarding sun care. The charge hands could saw our point, some of the men still have a bit of an issue. The result was whistleblowing is at an all time high (as some appear to be of the view well if I can't do this, you won't be doing that if it breaks the rules). In my view this is bringing lots of vital information to my attention which otherwise would have remained unreported, therefore my experience has been a positive one. However the Site Manager may have another opinion!! Lee
