Hi All,
what is considered reasonable with regards to first aid provisions for lone worker delivery drivers please?
Bearing in mind that the lone delivery will be done in the early hours, if the driver were to have a (minor) accident that required first aid, who would be expected to provide cover - the driver's employer or the owner/occupier of the premises being delivered to? Or both?
Also, would the transport company be expected to provide a first aid kit specifically for the use of the driver or would the owner/occupier?
Is it reasonable just to provide the driver with training and a kit?
Your opinions would be much appreciated.
Please can we keep the thread just to first aid provisions, other areas of risk are being considered but we felt that first aid is a bit of a grey area that needed clarifying.
Many thanks
Booney

There is a paragraph on "First aid for travelling, remote and lone workers" that answeres your question.

Adam,
many thanks for the link; this gives info for the employer but I need to know if there is any duty placed on the owner/occupier of the premises that take the delivery to provide any first aid facilities for the (lone) driver?

Or does the duty fall purely on the driver's employer?

Many thanks

The employer is solely responsible for FA provision, period.

A premises owner is not responsible for provision to non-employees unless they have licensing requirements (sports venues etc.) and to them your delivery driver is legally nothing more than a visiting member of the public.

If you have a look through the rest of the HSE info, you will see that employers have a duty to provide first aid facilities for their own employees only. Of course if someone is injured on their premises most employers or people in control of a premises will rightly so render first aid facilities to others as a moral, not statutory duty and in order to mitigate in the event of any possible civil claim for injury that may arise.
